Congratulations Deacon Paul!
The Deacon as Minister of Charity
Dear Friends and Parishioners,
My ministry of service as a deacon in the Parish will be threefold. In previous newsletters, I have described the diaconal ministry of the word and the ministry of the altar. The ministry of charity is the third dimension of the role of a deacon, embodying the spirit of service exemplified by Christ himself. Deacons are ordained to serve, and their work is deeply rooted in the mission of the Church to care for the marginalised, the poor, and those in need.

The deacon's role in charity involves helping to lead the parish community in awareness and sensitivity towards issues of justice and peace. As a deacon I am called to be a bridge between the Church community, the world of work, and the wider community, promoting social justice and serving as an advocate for the poor and disadvantaged. This includes not only direct service with vulnerable people, but also inspiring and helping to mobilise our parish community to participate in charitable activities.

This diaconal ministry of charity is a spiritual office reflecting the love of Christ himself. It involves more than just the distribution of material aid. It encompasses a holistic approach to serving the community, addressing both corporal and spiritual needs. As a deacon, I will work closely with the bishop and the priests of the deanery to ensure that the Church’s response to social issues is well-coordinated and effective. This coordination includes working with charitable organisations such as CARITAS and CAFOD and planning communal initiatives with you that respond to contemporary needs.

In practice, I do hope to be involved in a variety of charitable activities, from pastoral care for the sick to supporting our initiatives for social justice and peace, which we identified in our recent parish synodal conversation. My diaconal ministry of charity will require me to work in collaboration with all of you as the Body of Christ here in Kensington.

Please continue to pray for me and my family in my diaconal ministry. Saturday the 6th July presented a special moment for me ; ordained by Bishop James Curry, our hitherto Parish Priest. It is also my birthday which I take to be a sign of God’s wonderful providence.
Deacon Paul Hewitt
Congratulations
To the permanent deacons ordained 6th July for Westminster Diocese, Paul Hewitt, Our Lady of Victories, Kensington; James Sin, St John Fisher, North Harrow and Eze Ugoala, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Holloway. We keep them and their wives in prayer as they begin the new ministry.

On the occasion of the baptism of Emma on Sunday 30th June. With prayers and blessings for Emma's family as they celebrate this wonderful gift of new life in Christ.

To Fr's Robert Smialek, Tom Blackburn, and Domagoj Matokovic who were ordained in Westminster Cathedral on Saturday 29th June. They will serve as Assistant Priests in Stevenage, New Southgate, and Rickmansworth respectively. May God bless them in their ministry.

Sea Sunday 14th July
Seafarers and fishers play a vital role in all of our lives, but they often work in difficult, hazardous conditions. It is when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. Your support will make a big difference to seafarers and fishers in need. You can donate in Church, by visiting www.stellamaris.org.uk/donate, or by texting ‘SEA’ to 70460 to donate £5. This collection is vital to enable Stella Maris to continue its important work, so please give generously. Thank you.

Prayer
Loving Father, during this time of rest and relaxation, please repair in me whatever is broken, and revive my drooping spirit.
Let this vacation be a graced time of recollection and rejuvenation, of deeper self-awareness and eager self-giving. May it be an occasion of refreshment and reinvigoration-a time to reclaim my friendship with Jesus Christ, who is our Lord now and for ever. Amen.

Pope Saint John Paull II urged everyone to join in the  'great prayer for life'.
