Fatima
Last week I had the privilege of going to Fatima, the shine to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Portugal. It was here that Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children in 1917.

The appearances to these humble children, two are now canonised Saints, revealed Our Lady’s desire for us to pray the Rosary for the conversion of Russia and for sinners to repent and ask forgiveness for their sins.

While at the shrine you can visit the place where Our Lady appeared 6 times to the children and on the last appearance to a crowd of 70,000 witnesses. The children’s tombs are in the main Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, you can visit their homes in the near by village.

The revelations, known more commonly as the ‘secret’ messages of Fatima have been fully released. Indications are that they been fulfilled by past events, including the attempted assassination of Pope St John Paul II in 1981.

As we approach the month of October (the month of the Holy Rosary), I urge you to take up your rosary beads and pray. As a family, as friends, or on your own. Pray for your own intentions and those of the world, as you meditate on the mysteries of Jesus and Mary’s lives. This most powerful prayer can be prayed on your 10 fingers and thumbs, in the car, on the bus, wherever.
Fr Francis
