Pray as you go

Dear parishioners and friends,
In our Gospel today, Jesus heals a deaf man. As with each of Jesus’s miracles and healing’s, we can see something of ourselves in those people. Our deafness in relation to Jesus being able to hear the Word of God.

We are incredibly blessed that at every Sunday Mass we hear so much scripture (readings from the Bible). From the Entrance Antiphon, to the Liturgy of the Word and all the prayers of the Mass, they are saturated with quotes from scriptural texts. Even the responses of the Mass have a base in the Old and New Testament texts. Some one has helpfully put all this together in a document called ‘The Mass in Scripture’.

But despite being given so much, it can be hard to apply the scriptures to our daily life. I recommend taking home the Emmaus Mass sheet and re-reding the First, Psalm, Second or Gospel readings over the week. We might then ask: ‘What is the Lord saying to me through this piece of scripture?’

If you’d like to meditate on scripture while you’re on the move, then consider the ‘Pray as you go’ app. It has a daily meditation, with music and reflective questions, all based on one of the daily readings from Mass.
Fr Francis
