Lay Ministry Group
The Lay Ministry Group is made up of Readers & Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. Readers cover the liturgy readings & bidding prayers at each Mass. Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion assist with the distribution of Holy Communion at each Mass and in some cases will also distribute Holy Communion to housebound parishioners. Lay ministers receive training before being commissioned. Thereafter they are re-commissioned on an annual basis. The group meet once a year with the parish priest. No other meetings are involved. The group has a coordinator who reviews ministers’ availability, arranges cover for the weekend Masses (Saturday 6.30pm through to Sunday 6.30) and distributes a quarterly rota to all lay ministers. Readers & Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion will generally serve at a Mass they would normally attend, and the frequency of serving averages once every 3-4 weeks. Cover for the weekday masses is done on an ad hoc basis. If you are interested in joining the parish lay ministry as a reader you should contact the group coordinator, Mary Wilfred Tel 0207 937 4778 or email: [email protected] |
