The Legion of Mary Praesidium
The Legion of Mary Paesidium is a worldwide association of Catholics who have formed themselves into a body to be of service to the church. Mary the Immaculate is the model and through her its members seek to present Christ to everyone. The objective is the spiritual formation of all confirmed members of the church through prayer and the lay apostolic work to realize their vocation to holiness. The legion holds a weekly meeting, which begins with the invocation of the Holy Spirit followed by the recitation of the Rosary, spiritual readings, talks and a discussion. The main features of the meeting are the reports of apostolic work assigned to the members. The meetings last no longer than an hour and a half. The legion of Mary undertakes many forms of apostolic work directed by the parish priest and it is also an extension of God’s ministry into the parish. We have also helped our sister organizations in other parishes, e.g. Bayswater. The work takes no more than two hours of one’s time each week. It can range from home visitations, census work, visitation of the lapsed, care of the sick, elderly and housebound, hospital visits etc. Every first weekend of the month we hold an all night vigil in prayer at the church of St Mary of the Angels, Bayswater. We play a major role in the running of the church; we run the Parish repository, we regularly read at masses, clean the church at weekends and are also present at every mass to help with mass books etc. There are also plenty of opportunities for socialising, in the past there have been parties, Novenas and charitable events. We welcome new members, either seeking spiritual solace or eager to get more involved in the life and ministry of the church. In all our work we aim to raise awareness in people of the spiritual life seeking at all times to see Christ in everyone. Tel: 020 7937 4778 Parish email: [email protected] |
