Nerves of Trinity

Dear parishioners and friends,
If there is one topic which will get catechists, teachers, and preachers rather nervous, it’s today’s great solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. This is our belief that God is one and also three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). If you are worried about stumbling into a great heresy or getting tangled about whether the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all one and three distinct persons, or what we do actually believe, then I highly recommend this book: The Trinity: How Not to Be a Heretic by Stephen Bullivant (Professor at St Mary’s University, Twickenham).

There is no good reason to shy away from knowing more about our belief in the Trinity, because it is a defining belief and distinguishes us from all the other world religions. How amazing that God should desire to love his creation, as a heavenly Father, as God made human (the Son) and by the Holy Spirit. God really does want to get close to us. God demonstrates what it is to love, by himself being in a ‘communion of love’, each loving the other.

We make use of the Trinity in whose name we were baptised, in whose name we make our prayers and in whose name we make the sign of the Cross. It’s inescapable! Far from being a folly of theological thought—may the Holy Trinity be a reminder to us of how awesome God is and how our language will always fail to capture the magnificence of God.
Fr Francis

FAITH & ART IN FLORENCE
24th - 29th March 2025
Join us for a fascinating look at the artwork and churches of a wonderful city. The city of Florence is known as the cradle of the Renaissance and is home to some of the most beautiful works of art ever created. Many of these were made for churches to glorify God and illustrate the story of salvation. Our stay in the city will give us time to experience these masterpieces first hand and dwell on their spiritual significance for us today.
We visit churches and museums such as the Uffizi, the church of San Marco and the famous Duomo to see works by Donatello, Ghirlandaio, Fra Angelico and Michelangelo amongst others.
The tour will be led by Sarah Burles. Sarah is an art historian and authorised lay minister who worked in museums and galleries for many years. She knows Florence well and has led a number of tours to the city.

OLOV LATEST NEWS

GIFT AID DONATIONS:

Dear Parishioners:

We have worked with our colleagues in the Parish Support Team towards procedures for processing the Gift Aid from contactless donations through the Dona provider.

When signing a Gift Aid declaration on the device, you will also be asked if you would like your previous contactless donations to be Gift Aided.

Further, as entering a Gift Aid declaration on the device can take a couple of minutes, we want to help reduce the amount of time you may spend on the device, and reduce the queue for it. Leaflets have been created and placed at the back of the church and on the notice board. These contain a QR code that will enable you to use your smartphone to make your Gift Aid declaration. You can also access the Dona portal and leave your donation by simply scanning the underneath QR code:

You can also donate securely by debit or credit card by clicking on the button created at the section end.
